Department of Chemistry
We offer a range of three and four year courses that reflect the modern needs for chemistry in industry and society and the MChem Chemistry degree programmes have full accreditation from the Royal Society of Chemistry. What sets us apart from other departments is our dedication to providing student-focussed, multi-media learning methods to ensure high quality modern teaching. The result being, our graduates are equipped with both the specialist chemistry knowledge and a host of important transferable skills highly valued by employers.
High Student Satisfaction (NSS 2016: 95% of our students are satisfied by course )
"We have a continued commitment to small group teaching activities that provide students increased contact with teaching staff and regular personalised feedback."
High Quality Teaching (Sunday Times 2017: 3rd for teaching quality)
"Students benefit from our high-quality teaching and stimulating research projects that provide exposure to cutting-edge science and research equipment."
Excellent Student Experience (Sunday Times 2017: 4th for student experience)
Our research ranges from fundamental cutting-edge work on bio-inspired nanomaterials to global studies of chemicals and their effect on climate change. Recent research work has led to the formation of "spin-out" companies and 3 purpose built demonstrator units to display our technology to industry.
With substantial funding for industrial and government sponsored research, our research interests are multidisciplinary, focussing on diverse topics such as biological chemistry, green chemistry, atmospheric chemistry and laser spectroscopy.
