PEMLA - Developing PEM in the UK
Paediatric emergency medicine is a relatively new sub-speciality in the UK. Leicester has a leading role in the development of PEM.
PEM Training
Leicester is an approved training site for PEM sub-speciality training. We have 6 registrar posts. These are nationally advertised each year.
Dr Ffion Davies is the College of Emergency Medicine lead for paediatric training (CT3-ST7). She sits on the Training Standards Committee. Her equivalent at the RCPCH is Dr Omnia Marzouk. Further information on PEM training is available here
Standards of care in PEM
Chaired 2000 - 2010 by Dr Ffion Davies. Responsible for producing the 'Red Book' - the standards for children's emergency care in the UK. The concept of a benchmarking document has now been taken up by the International Federation of Emergency Medicine and the International Standards were published in 2012. Dr Ffion Davies is the Chair of the Pediatric Special Interest Group, which is writing the standards
