Emergency Medicine Academic Group

From Research to Resuscitation

Professor Timothy J Coats

The University of Leicester Emergency Medicine Academic Group (EMAG) is one of the largest Emergency Care research groups in the UK, encompassing both adult and paediatric emergency care.

Research

Research conducted within EMAG crosses the spectrum from bench research to clincial studies to implementation studies. The work divides into four main topic areas:

  • Injury Research
  • Illness Identification (including non-invasive monitoring)
  • Paediatric Emergency Care
  • Emergency Interventions

Grants Held

EMAG has a portfolio of grants to support our program of Emergency Care Research. The Group is closely involved with the Leicester Diagnostics Development Unit (DDU).

Teaching and Academic Training

The Emergency Medicine Academic Group runs a comprehensive training program in Academic Emergency Medicine, with an undergraduate Acute Care Block, Intercalated BSc studentships, Academic Clinical Fellowships, MD students and PhD students.

The Group provides a strictly limited number of elective placements for both Leicester and external medical undergraduates.
