Research Interests
Frank Proudlock is researching into the control of eye movements. His special interests are to understand the mechanisms of infantile and acquired forms of nystagmus and development of treatment for these conditions. Other interests include (i) eye and head coordination, (ii) perceptual fading, (iii) normal functioning of the oculomotor system including development and aging of eye movement control, (iv) treatment of amblyopia, and (v) the effects of various conditions on reading such as nystagmus, schizophrenia and amblyopia.
Frank studied Neuroscience (BSc) at the University of Glasgow followed by Bioengineering (MSc) at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. His PhD was untaken at the University of Leicester investigating the sensory control of movement subsequent to peripheral nerve injury using the human hand as a model. Since 2000 Frank has been working in the Ophthalmology group in the University of Leicester helping to establish a specialist clinical centre for eye movement studies and nystagmus research with Irene Gottlob. He has had a key role in the most of the significant breakthroughs and important publications from the group. Frank has number of teaching responsibilities in the School of Medicine and Biological Sciences including the supervision of a number of PhD, MD and BSc students many of whom have been introduced into the world of nystagmus.
