Research

The intersections between the body, identity, sexuality, consumption, culture and processes of organising, as recently articulated in research on topics such as the navigation of non-heterosexual identities in the military and identity work in the private security industry. These foci have been conceptualized using a framework derived from theorists including Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu and Judith Butler; and empirically explored via semi-structured interviews, focus groups and analysis of secondary texts like films and television series. Jo also has an abiding interest in academic practices in organization studies, such as research methodology and peer review.

Supervision

Six doctoral students: Irina Cheresheva, Rodney King, Robert Ott, Marisol Marin RojasMaria Vlachou, Sophie Whitehouse.
