About the School
The School has an international reputation based on our research strengths and teaching excellence. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, 85% of our research activity was world leading, internationally excellent or internationally significant. The School is consistently rated in the top 10 for Bioscience teaching and employability in the league tables published by UK national newspapers. We are currently ranked 3rd in the Sunday Times 2012 University Guide.
The University is renowned for the discovery of genetic fingerprinting by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys which has generated a multi-million pound industry and has had profound effects in the spheres of health and criminal justice. Leicester has also recently been involved in research ranging from the development of vaccines to population effects of pollutants and restoring and conserving ecosystems.
