Two items for discussion

1. Employability

JS raised this issue as a new report by HEFCE and CIB 'stepping higher' published in October 08 has been signed by VC, Senate will receive new employability strategy this month. Proposal for some HEFCE funding to be tied to employablity rates.

Employability in league tables - measured on  'Graduate prospects = Percentage of UK graduates in “graduate level” employment or further study six months after graduation in 2006' [from good university guide sorted by graduate prospects (Times): Leicester 72.3% Surrey 77.3%]

Ongoing activities in the school:

  • CABS programme - evolving programme over last three years, potential to repurpose exisitng material, potential for research paper, including student survey data collected in 07, CJW seeks contact with new graduates via facebook.
  • link with careers website (new plone version) JB to check out progress
  • JS would like to look at data on our own students experience and progression on their career thoughts - longitudinal study
  • Ian Hughes paper in BEEj on what graduates wished they had learnt. Skills and Knowledge Needs Among Recent Bioscience Graduates: How Do Our Courses Measure Up? 2. Internationalisation

Nadya reported on a meeting that she and Geetha attended last week. Project report on ESRC project on international student experience (nottingham university)

discussion centered around whether the issues raised were just as applicable to home students and certainly to EU 'home' students.

would be interesting to find out if our students took any languages at leciester courses
