Biochemistry at Leicester

The Department of Biochemistry was founded by Sir Hans Kornberg, FRS, in 1961 and is currently a large well-funded Department with around 30 members of academic staff. We are housed in a state-of-the-art research building: The Henry Wellcome Building. The Department is highly active in both research and teaching.

Our Research activities address four major areas:

  • Protein Structure and Function
  • Gene Expression
  • Cancer, Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology
  • Microbial and Cardiovascular Diseases
