Biochemistry at Leicester

On August 1st 2015, The Department of Biochemistry will be enlarged and restructured and will be called The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology

The Department of Biochemistry was founded by Sir Hans Kornberg, FRS, in 1961 and is currently a large well-funded Department with around 30 members of academic staff. We are housed in a state-of-the-art research building: The Henry Wellcome Building. The Department is highly active in both research and teaching.

Our Research activities address four major areas:

  • Protein Structure and FunctionLift and Stairs
  • Gene Expression
  • Cancer, Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology
  • Microbial and Cardiovascular Diseases
