Graduate Feedback

The University of Leicester MSc in Bioinformatics is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to study a challenging subject in a stimulating and rewarding environment. It is with great enthusiasm that I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in this interdisciplinary research area. Studying the MSc course in Bioinformatics from starting the core modules to finishing the independent research project has been a tremendous experience for me on both my professional and personal life. I was introduced to many exciting fields of research and benefited greatly from the expertise and guidance of researchers, tutorials and team work sessions with the other students. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank again the organisers, lecturers and supervisors for their time, and for their generous sharing of knowledge.
Amin Moghaddas Gholami (now PhD student at the German Cancer Research Centre, DKFZ, Heidelberg, Germany)

I really enjoyed my time at Leicester. The course itself provided us with a good grounding in both the computational and biological aspects of bioinformatics, as well as the opportunity to apply our new skills to real bioinformatics problems during the projects. The teachers were all enthusiastic and very approachable, which made learning a challenging new discipline easier and more fun! I made some great friends in Leicester and I feel that the MSc provided me with valuable skills and experience to go further in bioinformatics.
Maria Keays (now PhD student at the University of St. Andrews)

As someone with little prior bioinformatics knowledge, the course provided a comprehensive introduction to the subject. The format of the MSc encourages close interactions between lecturers and students, providing a stimulating environment for learning. The course familiarised me with some of the languages and biological databases useful to me in my current position, but more than that taught me to confidently utilise the huge amount of bioinformatic resources available through the internet.
Ed Schwalbe (now PhD student at the University of Newcastle)

This course gave me all the basics that I needed to get started in the vast world of bioinformatics. It may seem too intensive but in reality it is exactly what is needed in order to acquire both the appropriate knowledge and experience to carry on both in academia and industry.
Markella Skempri (now working at Pfizer)

The MSc course at Leicester provided me with a comprehensive background to all aspects of Bioinformatics. It is remarkable that we, as a diverse group of both local and international students, could progress from our limited knowledge in the field, to eventually complete specific independent Bioinformatics research projects successfully. It is really the lecturers who should be thanked for their unrelenting willingness to answer all questions or deal with any problem we presented to them. I am now back home in South Africa and know that I have been extremely fortunate - memorable experiences, unique opportunities, lasting friendships, good times, good memories...
Natasha Wood (now PhD student at the University of Capetown, RSA)

Bioinformatics is a tough cross discipline subject which Leicester University has arranged in an easy digestable format. The course benefits from a plethora of academic and industrial projects, which are tailored specific to the high standards of the course. Not only was this course a way of adding depth to my scientific knowledge it was a key career move which led to me being swooped straight off the course.
