My interest in and involvement with media used for learning goes back 45 years to when I set up the first programmed learning research centre in Africa, in what is now Harare, at the University College there. IMPALA and podcasting echo, for me, research I directed at the Open University, where I worked in the Institute of Educational Technology from 1970 until I retired in 1998. I collaborated with Gilly at the OU Business School, and Palitha was my PhD student. I'm delighted to chair the Steering Group for IMPALA, as part of my work at the BDRA.
