Gilly Salmon, Ale Armellini and Sylvia Jones presented at the fifth e-learning@Greenwich conference: Designing for Learning: on 4 July 2007.

Their presentation was entitled Institutional Embedding of E-Learning

Professor Salmon also gave a keynote: Vision of the new teacher.

Abstract: How effective is intervention that responds to departmental, subject specific requirements and hence shows the adaptability of its namesake, the Adelie penguin? Adelie is a one-year HEA-funded Pathfinder project aimed at embedding good e-learning practice across the University of Leicester, with a focus on re-designing to meet the e-learning needs of specific academic departments. In doing so, it builds capacity among Leicester staff. By bringing together pedagogy, subject knowledge and e-learning design, Adelie researches change that occurs as a result of the normalisation of sustainable e-learning practice at three different levels: institutional, teaching practice and learner experiences.

This paper presents some of the findings of this project and assesses its impact across the institution. It focuses on the types of online learning activities or e-tivities (Salmon, 2002) that course teams have designed and embedded in their courses and how these e-tivities link with assessment.
