Adelie and the HEFCE E-Learning Strategy
Here are some of the ways in which the Adelie pathfinder project maps onto the HEFCE e-learning strategy.
Adelie maps onto some of the key elements of the Measures of Success.
Point d: Tutors have tools for course design to enable better communication between them and their students, giving feedback and targeted support. ...
Adelie's actions are directly related to this measure, with both Carpe Diem and Barefoot E-Moderator courses dedicated to equipping participants with tools for course design, including the Carpe Diem "storyboard", the Salmon 5-stage model and the e-tivity approach.
Point e: Subject communities are able to share materials in ways that enhance their ability to produce customised high quality courses. They are supported to work collaboratively in designing materials, ...
Adelie's approach is essentially a team-based approach and each Carpe Diem workshop facilitates the collaboration of a team in a paticular discipline. The e-tivities approach produces collaborative, adaptable and re-usable leanring opportunities.
Point h: Staff are supported at all stages to develop appropriate skills in e-learning, and these skills are recognised ...
Adelie's Barefoot E-moderator workshops directly address the upskilling required for effective facilitation of learning online. Sessions are organised after Carpe Diem to help course teams fine-tune what they've developed.
Adelie also maps onto several elements of the 7 strands of activity in the strategy
1.4 Strand 1 Pedagogy, curriculum design and development: Produce and disseminate models of good e-learning practice including assessment.
Adelie is working to produce and disseminate such models and frameworks.
2.1 Strand 2 Learning resources and networked learning: Develop a comprehensive and coherent approach to the development and use of resources for learning and teaching, including digital resources and discovery tools.
The Carpe Diem approach to development of courses is both comprehensive and coherent. The full design process is covered from initial vision through setting objectives and storyboarding, to practical generation of student e-tivities. The approach is generic, consistent and applicable across all disciplines and types of courses.
2.3 Strand 2 Learning resources and networked learning: Promote the sharing of learning technology and resources across the HE sector and between sectors.
As part of the Beyond Distance Resarcjh Alliance Adelie is committed to sharing its findings including practical resources, widely across the sector. This is taking place via papers, conferences, seminars and Adelie's own website.
3.2 Strand 3 Student support, progression and collaboration: Utilise e-learning for delivery and support of foundation degrees.
Foundation degrees are included in the suite of courses which Adelie has helped develop.
4.1 Strand 4 Strategic management, human resources and capacity development: Seek to promote organisational change and technological risk management at a strategic level
One of Adelie's aims is to promote organisational change and build institutional capacity.
4.4 Strand 4 Strategic management, human resources and capacity development: Address skills, knowledge and competencies for e-learning in training and continuing professional development for learning and teaching staff, including learning technologists. in the sector.
The Barefoot course directly addresses the building of skills, knowledge and competencies for e-learning, and Carpe Diem builds skills in design for learning (including e-learning).
6.1 Strand 6 Research and evaluation: Contribute to the sector’s understanding and appreciation of the wider issues posed by e-learning.
6.2 Strand 6 Research and evaluation: Evaluate and disseminate national and international good practice in e-learning.
As a research project, Adelie's aims are closely aligned with the statements in strands 6.1 and 6.2
6.3 Strand 6 Research and evaluation: Evaluate ongoing relevance of the e-learning strategy to the work of the sector by means of benchmarking
Adelie is a research project which arose out of the benchmarking exercise.
