Seminar, 9 June: Oxford's Experience of Freely Distributing Academic Podcasts
Melissa Highton, Head of the Learning Technologist Group, University of Oxford and Fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford
9th June 2011, 11.00-12.30, Attenborough Seminar Room 002 (Ground Floor)
Melissa will present Oxford’s experience of making available its teaching resources – mainly lectures recorded live, sound-only – freely and openly and many with a Creative Commons license, via iTunes U as well as its website (http://openspires.oucs.ox.ac.uk).
The Learning Technologies Group which heads this work is able to produce good-quality material at relatively low cost, especially since the podcasts are recordings of naturally-occurring events in Oxford’s academic life.
The podcasts are extremely well-received by both current students and non-students alike, with iTunes U downloads topping 9 million since their October 2008 launch.
Melissa’s presentation will be followed by question-and-answer and discussion.
All are welcome but seating is limited so please email Terese Bird on tmb10@le.ac.uk to register your interest.
