Resources and Facilities

Picture11.jpgThe Department of the History of Art and Film is well-equipped to offer you all the resources you need for study and research into the visual image.

The Slide Room

Our department features its own slide room, with a collection of over 100,000 slides, 70,000 photographs and 100 original prints, as well as collections of reference books, digital archives and computer resources.

The slide room is situated on the seventeenth floor and offers panoramic views of Leicester. It is a relaxed and friendly environment that is ideal for individual or group work, and indeed many students meet in the room to collaborate on projects.

The Film Theatre

We have a state-of-the-art digital projection system installed in one of our lecture theatres, where we can show films in a cinema-like environment.

LIbrary Resources

The University's David Wilson Library has a number of specialised resources available for History of Art and Film students. These include a number of online databases such as the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and the JSTOR scholarly journals archive, as well a rich selection of books, ebooks and journals.

Embrace Arts

Embrace Arts is the University of Leicester's multi-use arts centre, created to be inclusive and encourage engagement in arts by people with disabilities. It features a 120-seater performance area, three studios and an exhibition gallery.

Career Development Service

The Career Development Service can help you throughout your course to gain the extra advantage you need to stand out in the real world. It will help you develop the skills you need to enhance your early career prospects, and encourages you to reflect and decide what you want out of your career. From there you can explore your options and plan how to achieve your goals.

The Career Development Service is unique in having its own network of graduate employers who tell them what they want in an employee, and there are regular visits from graduate employers throughout the year. Once a year, there is a Festival of Careers, featuring three days of opportunities to meet over 120 employers advertising over 9,500 graduate jobs. And before you attend, you'll get a preparation session so you can learn how to make the best impression, know what to ask and make the most of the event
