Stefan studied Classical Archaeology and Numismatics in Vienna, Padova, Frankfurt and Cambridge. After receiving his Masters degrees at the University of Vienna he worked as a research assistant for the project ‘Fundmünzen der Antike’ of the Academy of Science and Literature in Mainz. He received a PhD at the Goethe-University Frankfurt, where he was subsequently employed as ‘Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter’ at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences. In March 2010 he joined the Tracing Networks programme as a research associate to work with Colin Haselgrove in the project ’Mint condition: coinage and the development of technological, economic and social networks in the Mediterranean’.
