Sara studied Classical Archaeology, European prehistory, Greek philology and philosophy at the Universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen, before moving to Edinburgh for her MSc and PhD. Her 2007 PhD thesis examined handmade coarse and fine wares from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age on the Greek mainland and islands, including the contentious Handmade Burnished Ware. Having moved to Athens to conduct fieldwork for her thesis, she remained in Greece and took on publication responsibilities for Late Bronze and Early Iron Age ceramics from the Athenian Agora, Kalapodi, and Midea. Starting in March 2010, she is a Research Associate for the Tracing Networks project at the University of Leicester, working together with Ian Whitbread on technological traditions in the production of coarsewares in the Aegean of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age.
