Alessandro read Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate at the University of Turin. His MA and PhD researches focused on the Punic coarse and painted ware from the sanctuary of Tas-Silġ (Malta); he was awarded various scholarships by Universities of Milan and Lecce and from Maltese Government for this research. Over the years he has developed competence and skills in studying and analysing Classical pottery and material culture from different sites of the Mediterranean, mainly located in Italy and Greece. From April 2010 he gained a permanent position as an archaeologist in the Superintendency of Archaeological Heritage of Piemonte and Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (NW Italy).

Alessandro has built up a wide range of archaeological expertise and management experience working in various excavations in Italy, Malta and Turkey (Hierapolis). Moreover, he worked for one year as a archaeologist in the Municipality of Lecce. (SE Italy) In addition, he is participating in the archaeological project concerning the indigenous sanctuary of Santa Maria d’Agnano (Ostuni, Italy).

In 2010, Alessandro joined the School of Archaeology and Ancient History as Postdoctoral Fellow in the Tracing Networks subproject Weaving relationships: loom weights and cross-cultural networks in the ancient Mediterranean”. The project has been initiated by Prof Lin Foxhall and focuses on analysing the loom weights across the Mediterranean from Late Bronze Age to 3rd century BCE, investigating the exchange of shapes, decorations, craft knowledge and personal/group behaviours within the larger social and economic interactions.
