Alessandro is currently researching the rural demography of Roman Italy by way of an integration of landscape archaeology (e.g. survey-derived data) and historical demography (e.g. census evidence). Framed within an ongoing debate on the population and the agrarian economy of Roman Italy, his analysis has outlined an innovative picture of rising free population trends between Late Republic and Early Empire. Following on from his PhD project, he is now expanding and modelling such results as part of his Leverhulme Visiting Fellowship.
