Doctor of Medicine

These pages provides guidance for potential applicants for the degree of MD

An individually supervised degree programme for Leicester University Graduates and other Health Care Professionals who are working within the Leicestershire Teaching Hospital.

Eligibility for application for the Degree of Medicine

Candidates wishing to apply for the MD degree programme can do so if they are either:

a) a graduate in medicine of the University of at least three years standing;
or
b) a graduate in medicine of another University recognised by Senate for this purpose, provided that:

 

  1. the qualification was obtained at least three years previously,
  2. is recognised for registration by the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom, and
  3. the intending candidate is, at the time of his/her application, a member of the academic staff of the University or is otherwise engaged in appropriate clinical or scientific work within the Leicestershire area or, in special cases, in any hospital associated with the Leicester Medical School.

MD by Published Work

Members of the academic and related staff of the University of Leicester who have been in post for more than three years, or retired members of the academic staff with the same minimum period of service, or graduates in medicine of the University of Leicester of at least three years standing may apply under the conditions set out to be considered for the award of the degree of MD on the basis of published work.

Members of staff or Leicester Graduates who wish to register for the degree of MD by Published Work should consult their Head of Department at Leicester in the first instance and then obtain the standard application form from the Medical School Office.
