Molecular and Cellular Bioscience Research at the University of Leicester
Introduction
The Molecular and Cellular Bioscience (MCB) Research Theme encompasses basic and applied bioscience research from across the University. Our research excellence and breadth is reflected in the wide membership of the MCB theme that can be reviewed in our theme compendium.
The theme has four main areas of focus:
Single molecule approaches to understanding biological systems
Structure, dynamics and assembly of macromolecular complexes
Mechanisms and principles of regulation of gene expression
Signalling and phosphorylation networks
Our aim is to provide a strategic framework that will encourage collaborative research and act as a forum for communication. This is facilitated through our seminar series, special events, annual science day and newsletter. We have also developed a data base of techniques and approaches used by members of the MCB theme.
- Structural Biology Day 18th February 2011
- Spring Seminar Programme 2011
- Midlands BioPhysics Network Annual Symposium
- MCB Mini Symposium and Redfearn Memorial Lecture 2010
- MCB Theme Day 2011
In addition the theme provides a strategic input to the College Management Board and has representation on the College Research Committee. This strategic role includes the allocation of University PhD studentships and input into new appointments within the College.
The MCB theme also supports researchers within the theme by offering an internal peer review system for grant applications and a mentoring scheme to support early and mid career researchers.
