Advanced Imaging Facility (AIF)
The Advanced Imaging Facility (AIF) is the open access light microscopy facility of the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology and offers a wide range of confocal and conventional fluorescence microscopes and image analysis resources. It forms together with Electron Microscopy Facility, Pre-Clinical Imaging Facility, Histology Facility and Flow Cytometry the Leicester Imaging Technologies (LITE) and is part of the Centre for Core Biotechnology Services (CBS). Dr Kees Straatman is manager of the AIF.
The AIF has annually over 100 microscope users and is open to all users of the University of Leicester, but also members of other M5 Universities (Birmingham, Aston, Warwick, Nottingham and Loughborough) and other academic institutions are welcome.

Within the AIF we try to provide users with easy access to advanced imaging technologies but microscopy is continuously and rapidly evolving and several novel imaging techniques or improvements have recently become commercially available. Besides this, several research groups within the College build or built their own microscope systems. How can we improve microscopy in the AIF and in the College in general?
