Leicester Imaging Technologies (LITE)

Leicester Imaging Technologies, or “LITE”, is the overarching umbrella for the biological imaging capabilities of CBS. It encompasses a range of facilities that provides state-of-the-art instrumentation managed by a dedicated set of highly experienced senior experimental officers and technical staff. These include the Advanced Imaging Facility (AIF) which provides access to a wide set of microscopes for cell-based fluorescence studies through widefield, confocal, multiphoton and TIRF technologies and includes capability for high-throughput screening, the Electron Microscopy (EM) Facility, which analyses ultrastructural detail through transmission and scanning EM, and a Preclinical Imaging Facility, that has imaging modalities for small animals ranging from ultrasound and bioluminescence to quantum CT and MRI. The Histology Facility provides a managed service for provision, sectioning and staining of human and animal tissues, whilst Flow Cytometry and an X-ray Irradiator are also available for researchers to access. Further details of the specific equipment, technologies and capabilities, together with how to book the equipment and receive training, can be found within the individual websites:
