Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is it best for me to phone the Clearing Hotline, or to send an email?

A. If you are interested in securing a place at Leicester, we strongly encourage you to phone us. The availability of places will change rapidly, and we can deal with your enquiry most quickly over the phone.

If you have a general enquiry about processes or procedures, or your question is not urgent, please do send us an email at clearing@le.ac.uk and we will try to respond as quickly as possible.

Q. My status on Track has not changed.

A. Information on decisions is transmitted several times a day by the University to UCAS who automatically update UCAS Track. If Track has not updated it is almost certainly because the University has not yet been able to determine a final decision on your application.

Q. I wish to be released by the University of Leicester.

A. We encourage you to think very carefully before asking to be released by the University. Places across the sector will be very limited and you should only ask to be released if you have an assured place elsewhere. For applicants who have exceeded the grades required in their offer 'Adjustment' is a better process (see below).

If you are certain that being released is the right thing for you, please email us at admissions@le.ac.uk with your UCAS number and stating your reasons. Please put "Urgent: Release into Clearing" in the title of your message.

Q. I am holding a place at the University of Leicester but wish to take advantage of adjustment.

A. You need to make yourself available for adjustment through UCAS Track. Visit the UCAS Adjustment page for more information.

Q. Can I speak to someone at the University about my application?

A. You can contact the University's Admissions Team by calling 0116 223 1069 if you have queries about your application. Please be advised that on Thursday 18 August and Friday 19 August this number will be very busy. We very much encourage you to call on or after Saturday 20 August and in the meantime use UCAS Track to monitor your status.

Q. Why are there vacancies for some students and not others?

A. Publicly funded universities and colleges are required by the UK Government to limit the number of students they accept that normally reside in the UK or the EU. However, there are no such restrictions placed on applicants living outside of the UK or EU – where students are entirely self-funding. This means that certain courses in Clearing may therefore only be available to international students.
