University of Leicester's Diagnostics Development Unit examined on popular magazine programme

The University of Leicester was featured on last night’s episode of BBC’s ‘The One Show’ (20th May 2013) displaying the cutting-edge expertise creating a world-first, non-invasive disease detection facility. This facility was a cross-disciplinary effort from Cardiovascular Sciences, Physics and Astronomy and Chemistry.

The Diagnostics Development Unit is designed to use different senses including ‘touch, smell and feel’ to detect disease without any invasive procedures, for example probes, blood tests, or other traumatic testing.

The ‘bay’ uses different scans to help diagnose the patient by using a selection of instruments while the patient is lying down. The sick bay represents similarities to the bays featured in the well-loved science fiction TV series Star Trek.

Over the past four months, the University of Leicester's Soundcloud account has played host to more than 30 different podcasts on a wide range of topics from academic research, public lectures, Leicester Exchanges debates, student profiles and Richard III.

Since the Richard III press conference back in February, podcasts have been made on different aspects of the last Plantagenet king, from “What would Richard III have sounded like?” “What was he really like?” to interviews with academics and an exclusive insight into the press conference on 4 February 2013.

If you haven’t listened to any of the podcasts yet – please do so – and see what else you can learn about the King who was found under a car park in Leicester.
