The Canadian Alumni Fund for Leicester - launch target $100,000
We received a wonderful reception at our Alumni event in Toronto in October 2010. This has encouraged us to establish the University of Leicester’s first ever fund that is dedicated to supporting students from the Canada. Gifts from our Canadian Alumni community have already started arriving:
This new Canadian Alumni Fund will enable your University to respond quickly to Canadian students who are most in need or to positively recognise individual potential. There are over 200 Canadian students studying at Leicester right now. So, the donation you make, and the support it helps to fund, will have an immediate, profound and lasting impact upon the lives of students from Canada. For example:
- Merit based scholarships for self financing students
- Travel Awards for Canadian students and students on exchange in Canada
- Research Scholarships to ensure the very best students are able to register for research degrees, giving them the chance to be part of the next generation of leading academics undertaking world changing research
- Hardship Awards for students facing exceptional financial hardship
- Awards and prizes that recognise outstanding academic achievement, and help to raise self-belief, ambition and academic standards
Building Appeal - The Cardiovascular Research Centre.
For our current building campaign, your University is appealing for funds to build and equip a new £12.6m Cardiovascular Research Centre (CRC) at the Glenfield Hospital. The new Centre will mean more patients and people with a susceptibility to, or suffering from cardiovascular disease, will benefit from greater understanding, prediction, prevention, treatment and care. We now have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to achieve a step change in cardiovascular research that will not only improve prevention and patient care locally but achieve worldwide research impact.
