2009 Award
On Thursday 25 June 2009 Anita Linsell, Chairman of the Alumni Association, presented the University of Leicester Development and Alumni Office Prize for Best Presentation on Arts, Law and Social Sciences.
The winner of the prize was Anoop Bhogal of the School of Management for her poster, "Why can't we?": The voices of young female consumers in contemporary India. This was a study which she completed in New Delhi, India and focused on the experiences, meanings and values associated with consumption and consumer culture from a sample of young Indian women. As an emerging consumer culture, the Indian context offered rich insights into understanding how relations between modernity and tradition are negotiated as part of the complex relations between global and local branding and consumption patterns.
This prize has been funded by Leicester alumni whose generosity raises thousands of pounds each year in support of the University.
A film of the festival is available through this link. And more photos are available here.
