Alumni Lecture 2011
The University of Leicester Alumni Association 2011 lecture
Cosmic Quest: A History of Astronomy by Heather Couper and Nigel Henbest
Thursday 24 March at 6pm
This sell-out lecture was a great success with the Embrace Arts venue providing the perfect space for the lecture to be presented to over 120 guests. Photos are available below.
The lecture, presented jointly by Heather and Nigel, covered the history of Astronomy from its beginnings right up to the present day.
"Over the millenia astronomy has flourished into the most all-embracing of the sciences.
Its progress has been led by inspirational characters and outright mavericks who have pushed our knowledge of the heavens forward, forever testing the limits of our imagination in the quest to understand the universe.
This stunningly-illustrated presentation by two of today’s most-respected astronomers concentrates on the people and personalities who have asked the biggest questions of all."
This was part of the University of Leicester Science and Engineering Week 2011 programme.
This was a free lecture but donations were welcome on the night with the proceeds going to benefit scholarships in the College of Science and Engineering.
