London Reception at the House of Lords
Thursday 25th October 2007
One of the first events in the University’s 50th Anniversary programme of events was an Alumni Association reception at the House of Lords.
The reception, sponsored by proud honorary graduate the Rt Revd Tim Stevens (Honorary Doctor of Letters 2003), was held in the Cholmondeley Room and the adjoining Terrace overlooking the Thames - with its magnificent view of Westminster Bridge and the London Eye.
"It was an experience we will never forget"
Anne Foster née Coppack - BSc Sociology 1972
Close to two hundred graduates and guests mingled with staff of the University, fellow graduates and a sprinkling of Lords. They came from many areas of Britain, and some had even travelled from the USA and Norway to join the reception. All were unanimous in their enthusiasm for the event and the optional tours around the Palace of Westminster met with huge praise.
"My husband and I travelled more that 3,000 miles to attend this unforgettable event"
Elaine Latour - MSc Security and Risk Management 2005
In his welcome, Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Burgess outlined many of the University’s recent achievements - as one of the top twenty universities in the UK - along with our future plans to a captivated audience. He extended a warm invitation to everyone to come back to Leicester to enjoy some of the special events planned during Leicester’s 50th Anniversary Year including the Celebrate Leicester Day, the celebratory public Open Day on April 26 2008.
"It was great hearing the recognition of the University of Leicester"
Dorota Sieroszewska-Billet - MBA 2003
As always, the annual London reunion attracted graduates representing graduating classes from 1955 right up to the most recent cohort from summer 2007.
