CRC Appeal LogoHEARTFELT APPEAL RAISES £75,000 FROM GALA BALL

A fundraising dinner in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter has been described as a milestone event after it raised over £75,000 for heart research in the city.

Over 450 guests from communities across the city and county converged on the Athena for the Fundraising Ball in aid of the University of Leicester’s appeal for a new state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Research Centre at Glenfield Hospital.

The £1million public Appeal was launched last August to complete the building and equip the four-storey, £12.6 million Centre.  Proceeds from the Ball mean that a remarkable £475k has now been pledged or donated towards the public appeal.

Director of Development Steve O’Connor said: “The Heartbeat Ball was a fantastic night out for all and raised vital funds for a world-class facility that will benefit patients and those at risk of heart disease in the city, region and across the UK.  On behalf of the University I would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to all guests and donors at the Ball who raised such a wonderful amount for a cause close to their hearts.”
Birju Ghelani, Chairman of the Heartbeat Ball organising Committee, added: “I am pleased that the success of the Ball will help the new Centre open on time and fully equipped to begin its life saving work. The generosity of Ball goers and the support of so many businesses and organisations has been amazing.  We could not do it without them.”
