Chapters are the main point of contact for University of Leicester Alumni Association activities in each region. A chapter will, at a minimum, adhere to a basic set of terms of reference and work towards agreed goals. However, each chapter will have a distinct flavour, with alumni members agreeing priorities and the activities important to them and their community. As a result some may wish to be more formal and to adopt a constitution.

You can read more about what we think the roles and responsibilities of an alumni chapter should be in the terms and conditions.

Volunteer-led alumni chapters are entirely legally and financially independent from the University, but are officially recognised as alumni chapters on the University’s Development and Alumni Relations web pages, and in printed materials such as our annual graduate’s magazine. They can also have their own group page within our online alumni portal, Leicester Connect.

Chapters are expected to fund and organise their own activities and events. However, there may be situations in which the University partners with a chapter on a particular activity (e.g., an alumni reception attended by the Vice-Chancellor and/or the DARO Director, an academic workshop that features senior University academics, a VIP fundraising dinner). In these cases, the University, in consultation with the chapter, will typically help the chapter organise, run, and pay for the activity.

We ask that every chapter strive to maintain a consistent presence within their community by:Some chapters may have additional, more formal, programming that could include:
  • Hosting at least one event per year. This could be a networking event, careers talk or even a cocktail class!
  • Supporting University of Leicester Alumni Association events in the local area where possible
  • Communicating effectively with fellow alumni and the Development and Alumni Relations Office
  • Ensuring that details of upcoming events are sent to the Alumni Relations team at least four weeks in advance so that that all information concerning the chapter’s activities can be shared with interested alumni through the Development and Alumni Relations website or on the Chapter Group page on Leicester Connect.
  • Assisting University of Leicester staff visiting the region and arranging events at which alumni can meet staff
  • Fundraising Events
  • Newsletter to members
  • Officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, etc.)
  • A formal constitution
