Reliably informed

Engineering technology that drives industry, industry that drives educational development and the laboratory equipment that can be remotely accessed by students across the world

Today, embedded processors have become a core component of an enormous number of systems. You can find them in everything from aircraft and cars to medical equipment, children’s toys and DVD players. And key parts of the Reliable Embedded Systems technology upon which they’re based were conceived and developed in the Department of Engineering at the University of Leicester.

Having started as a research project, the technology went on to spawn a spin-out company, TTE Systems Ltd, that would manufacture and market it worldwide. With the uptake of the company’s RapidiTTy product becoming more and more widespread, a two-year postgraduate MSc in Reliable Embedded Systems has been created at the University to meet the evolving requirements of engineers working with the new technology. And so the cycle continues: cutting-edge university research feeding industry developments, which in turn inform course enhancements that benefit our students.

In fact, the course itself demonstrates an equally high level of innovation. Delivered by distance learning, it allows laboratory equipment to be accessed remotely through the internet via a webcam, which is ideal for overseas students. It just goes to show that here at Leicester, it’s not just the technology that breaks boundaries.
