Integration with the Blackboard VLE?

The JISC Plagiarism Detection Service is available through the Blackboard VLE. Within a Blackboard course a written assignment can be identified for inclusion in the JISCPDS and such work is sent automatically to the detection service when students submit their work. The tutor then logs into the JISCPDS using their CFS username and password to access the results of the detection service.

The following sections give an overview to using the plagiarism detection service but for more informative instruction on how to create assignments etc please watch this movie or read this instruction manual from page 6 onwards.

Creating a JISCPDS Assignment

Select the Control Panel

Login as a Blackboard course instructor, select the course site you want to add student work for inclusion in the JISCPDS and click on the Control Panel link.

Select a Course Content Area

From the Content Areas box select an area, such as Assignments.

To Add a JISCPDS Assignment

From the drop-down box on the right-hand side of the menu bar, select JISC PDS Assignment and click GO.

On the add assignment dialogue page complete all the relevant boxes (assignment title and start and due dates) and click Submit to add this assignment to your course. Once an assignment has been added to your course students can submit their work.

Submitting and REVIEWING Papers

Submitting Work to the JISCPDS

Students can submit their own work via the Assignment link. Any work submitted this way is automatically transferred to the JISC Plagiarism Detection Service and can be viewed by the course instructor.

Alternatively the instructor can submit course submissions via the Assignment link. Simply click on the View/Complete link next to the appropriate assignment to activate the submission form. On this form enter the student's name (First and Last Name) and the paper's title and browse your local file store for the appropriate file. Finally click on Submit to upload the selected file.

Viewing Test Results

The course instructor can view the detection results for all the course's assignments via the Control Panel and selecting the JISC PDS Assignments option of the Course Tools menu.

This produces a list of assignments: click on the appropriate View link for the assignment you want to check.

To view a paper click on its title (test). To see the Originality Report click on the originality score link (coloured box to the right of the score).
