Biography
Professor Nicholas Hartell
My interest in Neuroscience was kindled during a sandwich placement at the Institute of Neurology, Queens Square, London. After completing my undergraduate degree in biology, I moved to Bristol where I completed a PhD in pain physiology with Max Headley. I became interested in cerebellar physiology while in Bristol and took a brief post-doctoral position with David Armstrong before moving to Japan with an STA fellowshiop to work with Masao Ito at what is now the Brain Science Institute, Riken, Japan. Here, I became fascinated with the processes underpinning learing and memory in the cerebellum.
After four years in Japan, I took up a lectureship at the University of Aston in 1996 where I continued to study long-term depression and long-term potentation. I was promoted to senior lecturer in 2000 and moved to the School of Pharmacy the following year. Here I continued my interests in synpatic physiology and imaging.
I took up the post of Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Leicester in 2007.
