Favourite UoL pages
There are more than 20,000 individual pages on the University of Leicester website. Here are a few of my personal favourites.
The Bearcam
SPEAR (Space Plasma Exploration by Active Radar) is a project of the Radio and Space Plasma Physics Group. The SPEAR equipment is located on the island of Spitzbergen about 1,000 km north of the top of Norway and includes this webcam. I have never seen a polar bear on this but I live in hope...
Glossary of Lapdancing Slang
An annual project given to students in the School of English is evidently to compile an on-line dictionary of slang relating to some area of interest or other social group. Most choose a sport, a hobby or a locality but in 2005/6 one of the students, who was paying for her course by working in a 'gentlemen's establishment', compiled this. Unfortunately the search doesn't seem to work any more which is a shame as some of the phrases and definitions were breathtakingly funny. Warning: contains images which may not be entirely office-friendly.
Rotating Globe
This is a really neat, albeit utterly pointless, Java doodad developed by someone in the Department of Engineering. Click and pull on the globe to rotate it in any direction. Double-click on any country to bring up some (slightly out-of-date) national statistics.
