Assignment Extension Request

This form should be used by students to formally request an extension for an assignment. Within a programme deadlines are set and advertised for each module and students are required to abide by these. The regulations governing late submission of assessed work and the penalties that apply for work submitted late without permission are outlined in the Programme Handbook."

About Assignment Extension Requests
Where there are exceptional circumstances students can apply for an extension to the deadline for their assignment.

Extensions to the deadline can only be granted for a maximum of 14 days.

To apply for a deadline extension you should complete the attached form outlining the reasons for not having completed your work within the allotted timeframe.

Evidence of mitigating circumstances will be required.

What Qualifies as Exceptional circumstances?
These are outlined in your Programme Handbook.

Please do not complete this form to request an extension due to the following common requests:
  • overseas travel associated with work.
  • unexpected work loads.
  • eventful social life.
In the above cases students are expected to use the flexibility inherent in the module sessions system.

Please note that a period of 4 weeks grace is built into module 1 to allow for late registration/arrival of materials.

What Happens Next?
Your request will be reviewed.

In the event that you have met the conditions for an extension you will be contacted with details of your extension period.

If further information is required you will be contacted by the University.

If you do not hear from the University you should assume that your request has been rejected.

I was not approved for an extension - what can I do?
You have the following options:
  • attempt the module at the next module session. This will be a new assignment question. No penalties are incurred.
  • submit your assignment late without permission and incur the penalties associated with late submission.
