Blackboard and PLEs
what I learnt about blackboard and PLEs at the midlands Bb user meeting
University College Birmingham
Formerly the college of food and tourism, now UCB, using Bb7.3
Sophie Paluch presented work they had shown at Durham conference in December with andy Ramsden showing how they had created a new tab (using Bb communities) called bb mobile. This was viewable on a WAP or internet enabled PDA (single click page).
The page was for placement students to collate their experiences. Each student chose their own method of recording (all web 2.0) and gave the resulting RSS feed to the instructor. The Bb page then became an agregator of the feeds. A discussion board was set up using some java coding which allowed the staff member to see and then comment on the student blogs (I think the comments remained in the discussion board).
Sophie is going to give us a guest log-in so we can see how it works. She also has a rather lovely iTouch that we all drooled over.
Pebblepad and others
There was a chap form wolverhampton at the meeting, but he didn't know much about how inaccessible pebblepad was. Other people were looking at it, but recognised it was not SENDA compliant.
other suggestions to look at were
OU mystuff - moodle, in development
myhara - hmm, can't find that one, perhaps I haven't got the spelling right.
