RESEARCH
My research crosses the interface between demography and epidemiology of ageing with a particular focus on healthy active life expectancy and its use to monitor population ageing.
I lead the Healthy Active Life Expectancy, Disability and Survival Theme Group of the MRC Cognitive Function and Ageing Study, co-lead (with the University of Montpellier and the Belgian Institute of Public Health) the European Health Expectancy Monitoring Unit (EHEMU) and am a member of the Steering Group of the International Network on Health Expectancy and the Disability Process (REVES).
More recently I have begun to develop a simulation model to forecast the future burden of disability through changing patterns of disease. An early version of this appeared as a background paper to the Wanless Review of Social Care 'Securing Good Care for Older People: Taking a long-term view' (available at http://www.kingsfund.org.uk/resources/publications/appendices_to.html).
