Profile

Aldo Rona received a B.Eng.(Hons) from the Department of Aeronautics, City University, London, in 1993 and a Ph.D. from the University of Southampton, U.K., in 1997.

As EPSRC Research Fellow at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, University of Southampton (1996-1997) he studied vortex boundary layer interactions by laser velocimerty. He developed time-resolved numerical models of unsteady transonic flows as EU Marie Curie Fellow at the Department of Aeronautics and Aerospace, von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics, Belgium (1998). He joined the Department of Engineering, University of Leicester, as Lecturer in Thermofluids (1998-2010), where he has been working as Senior Lecturer since 2010.

Dr. Rona worked part-time at the Alstom Power Technology Centre, Whestone (2003-2004) on adaptive mesh refinement for turbomachinery aerodynamics, sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Secondment Scheme. A sample of the work was showcased at the Britain’s Top Engineering Award, The House of Commons, 14 December 2004.

Dr. Rona was the Coordinator of the “unsteady aerodynamics training network in airframe components for competitive and environmentally friendly civil aircraft” (AeroTraNet). This is a €3.2M EU FP6-2004-Mobility-2 programme. It involved four European universities (Leicester, Politecnico di Torino, Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Université de Toulouse) and three European industries (Alstom UK, Airbus France and Fiat).

Dr. Rona is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS), and member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (MAIAA).
